With Xbox Live Arcade and the Playstation Network, game companies are able to sell their class hits on current generation consoles. Games like Duke Nukeum, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Doom have allowed gamers to relive the ?glory days.? The game that really peaked my interest was Battlefield 1943, a downloadable game that brought updated graphics to four maps from the PC hit Battlefield 1942. The game was a critical and commercial success for EA, which brings me to raise the question; why don?t more game companies do this?
The Halo franchise (following Reach) will be in the hands of Microsoft. Obviously, Microsoft will try finding as many revenue streams using the Halo brand name as possible. Ultimately they will look to develop new games, TV shows, movies, etc. However, Microsoft should just follow in EA?s footsteps. They should make a multiplayer only Halo 1 game featuring a handful of the most popular maps (Blood Gulch, Sidewinder, Hang em High, etc), update their graphics, and allow gamers the opportunity to play the game that launched this phenomenon on Xbox Live. Have a clan system and leader boards and I guarantee you have a hit on your hand.
Microsoft, how much you want? Twenty? Thirty? Done. I?ll cut that check right now (MARBURY). If Halo ODST sold for $60, and 3 million copies were purchased in three months, how can this not be a hit?
