Every year, someone tries to discover the next Miles Austin or Jamaal Charles. The goal being to find a player late, who you can stash away that will hopefully emerge late in the season and help salvage your poorly put together team. These types of players are known as sleepers. Now there will be some pretty obvious sleepers such as guys like Rashard Mendenhall who have tons of talents but haven?t gotten an opportunity to display it until this season. Then there will be the sleepers you haven?t heard of who will fall late in most drafts.
Early-Round Sleepers
Rashard Mendenhall PIT- With Willie Parker officially out of town, its Mendenhall?s time to shine
Beanie Wells ARI- With Kurt Warner gone and a shaky Matt Leinart running the show, I expect the Cardinals pass heavy offense to balance out, leaving Beanie Wells as the main beneficiary.
Jermichael Finley GB- The Packers young tight end emerged at the end of last season and I expect him to maintain his high level of play this season.
Matthew Stafford DET- Now has a full season under his belt as a starter and an improved rapport with stud wide receiver Calvin Johnson.
Hakeem Nicks NYG- Put up solid numbers as a rookie and will have every opportunity to excel in his second season
Late-Round Sleepers
Johnny Knox CHI- With Mike Martz as the new offensive coordinator, expect the Bears to throw the ball all over the field.
Devin Aromashodu CHI- With the combination of Mike Martz and Jay Cutler, the only question will be who emerges as Cutler?s favorite target? Knox or Aromashadu. My vote is for Knox
Jahvid Best DET- Now he most likely will not fall in the later rounds, but if he is available in the medium rounds, he is definitely worth the risk.
Arian Foster HOU- with rookie running back Ben Tate out for the year with an ankle injury and Steve Slaton falling out of favor with Gary Kubiak, Foster should benefit the most.
Mohamed Massaquoi CLE- Showed flashes of brilliance with what was a pretty horrible situation all around for Massaquoi. Jake Delhomme should be a decent upgrade over Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson. So expect more consistency from Massaquoi.
