After the recent announcement by Consumer Reports stating that they could not recommend the iPhone 4 due to antenna problems, Apple's share fell Tuesday morning to less than $247 a share, down from $257 late Monday.
The problem that many have read about, in which holding the left side of the iPhone 4 will reduce signal quality, was tested and confirmed by Consumer Reports' engineers. CR states:
"when your finger or hand touches a spot on the phone's lower left side- an easy thing, especially for lefties- the signal can significantly degrade enough to cause you to lose your connection altogether if you're in an area with a weak signal. due to this problem, we can't recommend the iPhone 4."
This was an extreme blow to Apple, as seen by the drop in their stock price. The reason can be attributed to the fact that Consumer Reports is a household name; many people trust them, even if they are not only focused on technology. For normal people that aren't tech-savvy, they may have read this report and completely back CR's conclusion.
I, for one, have not had any problems holding my iPhone4 on the left side. I have tried many times to reproduce the problem, but still cannot. Maybe this problem only really shows in weak spots in the AT&T network.
