So I just got back home from an outing with the crew @ menversus.com. What was on the menu tonight? Hmm let's see, about 10 pounds of sour patch kids and Christopher Nolan's latest mind thriller, Inception. How was it? Well, about as good and thought provoking as "Click"... just kidding.
In short, Inception is a vibrant, exciting and visually astounding mind thriller. The story is quite complex but ingenious. Like many films about the subconscious, determining what is real and figuring out how each piece of the plot coincides with the last can be challenging at times. That is the beauty of this film; you can?t look away because you want to see what?s ahead, until you realize you are stuck in a labyrinth. Then, everything changes...
The less you know going into the movie, the better. So here is a quick list of items you should know:
Christopher Nolan is the shit, I don?t care if I?m blunt
The cast is very strong and encapsulates many great actors and actresses such as Joseph Gordon-Levitt (500 Days of Summer) and Ellen Page (Juno). Of course there?s Leonardo DiCaprio, who has earned a lot of respect in my eyes (especially in Shutter Island), but he alone does not carry the weight of the movie. Powerful performances from the whole cast really brings the movie together.
What is Inception? No, I won?t tell you that. However, you should know that DiCaprio and his team of experts have learned how to master others? subconscious and steal what people value the most ? their ideas. However, no one can judge how viral and dominant those ideas may be.
The special effects and scenery (especially the architecture) were very impressive. Nolan produces environments that literally feel like they are coming out of the screen. The soundtrack provides suspense and relief throughout the movie.
Keep a totem with you just in case you should ever wonder where you really are? (you?ll understand this soon)
