The New York Knicks might have missed out on the Lebron sweepstakes, but they greatly improved their quality as a NBA 2K11 franchise. The Knicks now feature a solid combination of youth and veteran talent, which is great for building or making trades to develop the roster yourself. Let?s look a little deeper at the New York Knicks:

Point Guard- One of the Knicks off-season moves was to sign Raymond Felton. Felton is a great do-it-all point guard in 2K. He has solid speed, makes good passes, and can drive to the basket. Felton can also shoot the perimeter with consistency, and plays solid defense. While Felton does several things well, he isn?t particularly strong in any one area, which can be annoying at this position in 2K. However, Felton?s worth will be measured on how well he can execute the pick and roll with Amar?e.
The other point guard the Knicks will feature is Toney Douglas. Douglas has been making a splash in the summer league, which is a good sign 2K will give him his due. The strongest attribute of Douglas is his perimeter defense, but he has become a very capable three point shooter. I see a lot of similarities (in 2K) between Toney and C.J. Watson.

Shooting Guard- although the Knicks love to shoot the three, they don?t have a shooting guard that can do so with consistency. I expect Wilson Chandler to be the starter come opening night. Wilson is really a prototypical small forward, but will most likely play the two. Chandler is a good slasher, but has a very mediocre mid-range jumper, and Wilson is about the last option to take a three.
Kelenna Azubuike is part of the trio that came over in the sign-and-trade for David Lee. I?m personally a huge fan of Azubuike. He is a very good athlete that can get to the rim extremely well. Azubuike also has a mid-range jumper and he isn?t too shabby from three point range either. Although Chandler will most likely be the starter in real life, in 2K Azubuike would be my choice. However, this is a position I would upgrade if I was going to take control of the Knicks franchise. Chandler due to his youth and solid numbers has a pretty strong trade value.

Small Forward- the Knicks will feature two very versatile small forwards. The first is Danilo Galinari who had a very good year, however appeared to be snubbed in all the 2K updates. His player rating would increase, but his consistency would never quite be there, especially from long range, which is where he thrives. In addition, 2k has given Danilo a slow release that is hard to get off when playing against a competent gamer. Galinari is becoming one of the premier perimeter shooters in the game, and I wouldn?t be surprised if 2K finally recognized it. The only downside to Galinari is his lack of athleticism in comparison to the premier small forwards in the league, but that shouldn?t stop his effectiveness on the offensive side of the floor.
The second small forward is Bill Walker, who was definitely under most peoples radar last year. After receiving virtually no minutes in Boston, he became a solid contributor for the Knicks and shot an incredible 43% from long range. Walker was considered one of the best players in the country in the 2008 draft class that featured Derrick Rose, OJ Mayo, and Michael Beasley. However, a knee injury has side tracked his rise to stardom. Expect Walker to be an incredible three point shooter in 2K11, and possess some solid driving skills.

Power Forward- the biggest addition for the Knicks this off-season was Amar?e Stoudemire. While questions might surround Stoudemire?s consistency in real life, there is no question about his ability in 2K. On our top 50 player ratings we had Amar?e at nine, which was the highest rated power forward. The reasoning behind our decision is his absolute dominance on the offensive end. When paired with a solid PG he is almost unstoppable. As I mentioned earlier, Felton is critical to the success of Amar?e in New York. The downside to Amar?e is that he isn?t that strong on the defensive side of the ball, and expect him to be undersized when he plays Center. However, as far as 2K is concerned Amar?e Stoudemire is a tremendous foundation for a franchise.
Another player brought over in the David Lee trade was Anthony Randolph, who I have very high expectations for in 2K11. Randolph is a long, young and an athletic freak. As my friend says ?he is a good Tyrus Thomas.? Randolph will be extremely effective, especially when Stoudemire goes to play the five.

Centers- perhaps the greatest weakness of the Knicks is the lack of a strong Center. They acquired Ronnie Turiaf and Timofey Mozgov (a highly touted European player). Knowing 2K Mozgov will not have a strong rating, due to the fact that not much is known about how well he will do in the NBA. Turiaf is a good backup center in the NBA, but don?t expect him to light up the scoreboard.
As I mentioned the Knicks do have some solid pieces in place to be a strong 2K franchise, but some changes might be necessary. The first move I would make would be to acquire a strong defensive center. An excellent fit would be Marcus Camby. The Knicks could also use an athletic shooting guard that can shoot the three. Someone like Eric Gordon might fit the mold, or a Brandon Rush if you are looking for a clutch backup.

While the Knicks are on the cusp of being a playoff team in the NBA, you will most likely have no problem winning with them in 2K. Check back to menversus.com for more previews on NBA 2K11.
