When I?m in the market to purchase a new game I want instant gratification. Meaning, I don?t want to order online, and then wait for delivery. I want the product in my hand, so I can enjoy immediate entertainment. Unfortunately, for me, that involves going to the local GameStop to pick the game. I don?t know about anyone else out there, but I hate walking into GameStop.

It seems like every time I walk into GameStop one of two things happens; the first is a girl is working behind the counter (no she is not attractive), and some thirty-one year old is trying to hit on her. Is he even buying a game? Of course not! He is merely asking the most trivial of questions that anyone with half a brain could answer, or easily find on the Internet. This ritual normally eats up at least ten minutes of my time. I often have the urge to slap the S*** out of the guy and make him aware that she is unattractive and uninterested in him. I know its every gaming nerds fetish to have a super hot girl be interested in video games, but lets face it she isn?t going to be working at your local Gamestop. Hell, she has an image to maintain.

The second reason I hate going into GameStop are the clerks who work there. I walk into buy a game and they try to start up a conversation with me. ?Bad Company has received good reviews, did you play the original Battlefield?? These type of question drive me insane, because if I give the simplest of answers they start to talk more about the gaming industry. Now I love the gaming industry, but as much as I enjoy games, I like the business aspect of it even more. The clerks at GameStop think that they know the industry, because they collect consumers money. Do you see economists asking cashiers at Wal-Mart how there companies business practices are effecting small market consumer goods? Obviously not, and I share a similar attitude about the people who work at GameStop. They might be passionate about games, and enjoy playing them, but when it comes to business they don?t know S***. The ignorance is what bothers me the most.

Now you are probably wondering why I go to GameStop if I hate it so much. The simple answer is that I?m forced to due to my geographic location. GameStop is the closest retail establishment that sells video games. Furthermore, I feel you run a higher risk of a Best Buy, Target, etc. not having the game you want in stock then if you go to GameStop.

I will end my rant with an unforgettable GameStop experience. I was with a friend of mine who was looking for a game card for Everquest. My friend brought the item to the counter for purchase and the clerk asked him what character he played. My friend responded by saying, ?my main character is a 55 warrior, but this is for a 31 paladin.? The clerk responded to his response by saying ?warriors are weak, they are nothing without clerics.? My friend, extremely uncomfortable talking about EQ in a public forum, quickly moved toward the exit. As we were leaving the clerk screamed out, ?Clerics RULE!? Thus, reconfirming the stereotype that gamers are nerds, and clerks at GameStop are super nerds.
