As I am sitting here in my new apartment yet to get an ISP to provide my home with cable internet, I
quickly peered over to the available wireless networks to see if I could get any free access. To my dismay, almost every one was secured, however, a couple still lay open for feasting. Whether or not you believe it is un-ethical or wrong to access an unsecured network, that is beside the point. Within the fact that only 2 out of 20+ networks were unsecured, I believe that the technological prowess of the average person has increased tremendously. This is truly a good thing; 2 or so years ago your ordinary wireless router owner did not know what it meant to "secure" a network. WEP or WPA were acronyms saved for creepy computer nerds and video gamers.

Nowadays however, people have been informed with basic tech how-to. With iPhones, iPads, Androids, netbooks, etc flying all over the place, I believe society has been jump started to get with the times. It is amazing to think that just a few years back, 512mb of system memory was a crazy amount. Who would have thought that systems ship with over 16gb of memory today, or companies such as Apple offer 12 core CPU based systems. Everything, including the way we read books, newspapers, do banking, and fetch/share information has evolved. This rate of growth is not linear; in a short amount of time the average person has exponentially increased.

Don't get me wrong, this is definitely not to say people are still quite horrible when it comes to many different gadgets and technology. However, quickly strolling through a Best Buy or Staples today brings me to the conclusion that people are just generally better informed these days. Whether it be a new generation, or old dogs learning new tricks, whatever the case technology is advancing and changing as fast as ever. I, for one, will embrace these changes. I cannot wait to see what the future holds, as I hope to see more advanced 3D television that's able to wirelessly stream across households, more advanced hand-held devices, and micro-organism memory devices.
