According to ESPN?s Chad Ford and Marc Stein, it is believed that the New Jersey Nets are the frontrunners to trade for Carmelo Anthony. The Nets make the perfect trade partner for the Denver Nuggets because they can offer 3rd overall draft pick Derrick Favors who is a tremendous athlete with tons of potential, the expiring contracts of Troy Murphy and Kris Humphries, along with one other future first-round pick. Not to mention the Nets are going to relocate to Brooklyn in 2012, the birth place of Anthony. This is probably the most the Nuggets will get in return for the superstar who has already made it clear he wants out of Denver by declining a three-year, $65 million contract extension.
I however, who has no insider information what so ever, believes that this deal will not happen for the simple reason that Carmelo Anthony will not guarantee to resign with the Nets. I fully believe he wants to join Amar?e Stoudemire in New York where they can challenge both the Heat and the Celtics as the perennial favorites in the east. Now will a deal between the Knicks and Nuggets happen before or during the season? That is a question I do not have the answer to, but there is one thing I can guarantee you, Carmelo Anthony will be playing in New York by the start of the 2011-12 season.
